Drove the last 170km’s into Pulcallpa before lunch. Found a travel agent to quote on flights to Iquitos and a tour on a boat. Drove to the supermarket to restock on some basics. We saw some Amish people shopping which was confirmed by an American missionary living here.

Drove out of town  and found a camp on the edge of a lake. Lots of boats to-ing and fro-ing.

We continued our drive north and then turned off East to Pulcalpa got as far as San Antonio.

More broken roads

 and

 big new bridges.

It was drizzling a bit so turned off and drove through the town and into the jungle. Camped on the roadside a few people passed on their way home from their fields.

After breakfast we took the tire cover off to a sewing shop and asked for it to be repaired. The clips had broken and the zip doesn't work. Agreed to pick it up at 4pm.

Next John went off to post a flash drive back to Aus and I went looking for a Aluminum strip to replace the broken skirt support. Met John on his way back for passport and I suggested we try my WCC (working with children card). It was sufficient ID to post parcel back to Australia.
We finally found some alloy, got it cut to length and 3 holes drilled S/10. Went with the manager of the hotel Erica to the parish office to pay for the parking S/100 for the 3 nights.

Checked out of the hotel and sat in foyer before lunch. I was getting concerned that our DHL parcel had not arrived from Australia already 20 hrs late.

Went to a grill restaurant for lunch and had steak (well a chunk of beef) pork chop and sausage for lunch. A guy came and sat at the table next to us with a big black plastic bag. He pulled out a DHL envelope and wrote it up in a book. I asked him if he had anything from Australia he said no and gave me his number. I then showed him the receipt and as soon as he saw the name Denis Attencia on it he said he had it at home. And asked if it was a “thermo with two wires” we said yes and he promptly left to get it. It cost us S/10 to receive it. Just as well as he thought it was going to Tingo Maria 2 hours north. So just as well we had lunch here today. Amazing coincidence.

To put a dampener on this, my best friend contacted me to say her youngest son and taken his life. I wish I could be there for her.

Back to the hotels foyer to await our tyre cover. Rang and woke Chris at 6am to have a chat as when we leave the hotel 3G is not very good.

Finally picked up EC and drove to pick up the tyre cover. The guy had replaced the clips put clips on where zip is and replaced the zip which we didn’t want. Anyway all good S/80.
Next a quick shop for cheese and yogurt then north.

Drove well into dusk and finally found a road out the far end of a tunnel going up. Followed it and found a little concrete pad off to the side. A tight fit but ok for the night.

Johns meeting went OK last night.

Wandered out for a bite to eat and did a bit of work on panoramas and downloaded a few movies to watch at some stage in EC.

Went out and retrieved EC and bought her back to the garage in time for Johns conference call at 5:30pm.

Took EC for her service. After finally finding the service centre for Perucar we left EC with the grease monkey and headed back to the hotel. Lima did not have a fan belt so we returned to EC to get our spare out of the locker. They were able to source a new airconditioner v belt, locally. EC would not be ready till tomorrow.
Johns meeting went OK with the phone dropping out twice in the beginning.

John did some more reading. Had lunch at a fish restaurant.

The entrance park to Huanaco has all its shrubs shaped as different animals.

Settled in for meeting to realise when no one else signed in he was a day early!!

At least he has time to process...

Went downstairs and booked another night. Luckily Erica was able to shuffle bookings so we could remain in our rooms.

2017-08-12 day 118

Our plan had been to use these two days and travel back down to Cerro De Pasco and come north on another orange road.

However the Internet is just not good enough for John to make some much needed phone calls so headed back to Huanuco. Booked another night in same hotel when we got signal and tried to find the archeology site in Ambo but couldn't. So just drove on up to Huanuco.
Stopped when we saw a guy welding beside the road. Was going to ask him to wield the broken strut on the right hand side, forward of back tyre, which holds the grey skirt in place , but discovered that it is aluminium…. Stopped at another place who just pop riveted a piece of steel over the top. I’ll look for a replacement on Monday.
Put EC in the parking area which caused the guy a headache as space was limited and truck big.Took a motor taxi to a restaurant for lunch. Bought some snacks and wine from a supermarket and two 12v fans from radio shack. John continued to read his papers and made his phone calls.Had a walk around the main square and saw some rally cars. There is a rally on tomorrow as it is Huanuco’s 364th anniversary.
