A nice view over the fjord to the snow. Sent a photo of our view
to John Yeo. A lovely morning. Finally dove out back through puerto Natales and
headed south towards Punta Arenus, only 2.5 hours away.
The road and
environment was uninteresting, flatish with low growth. There were quiet a few men cleaning out the gutters along the way.
North of the town we
checked out a camp public ground. At one stage it was a lovely place
but now very overgrown and derelict. The fire pits broken and
neglected. However a big area and would do for tonight.
We tried to find a place for me to camp while john is away. A place mentioned on i-overlander was vacant. So dropped into a cabana place close by to see if they would take me. After chatting to the owner and explaining my need she called her daughter who arrived shortly. The initial cost was CL$5000 a night but when she realised I’d be there alone it would be free. She also has a campervan and was going off to Torres de Paine for a week. So I have a place still not sure what i’ll do.
It was getting late
so we drove off to find a very illusive camp. None on the beach all
fenced off. Any space between the sea and the road with enough room
for EC would have squatters there. Drove inland towards a NP and
lake. Road tightly fenced all the way. Started to rain quiet heavily.
The parks gate was locked and after trying to get level on the bank
beside the road we drove 10m back and parked in the grass. Used a
block to level ourselves. Not a great camp but in the dark and rain
will be ok.
