2019-11-11 Day 388 Mon

Dawn found us still at anchor where we would remain until 2000hrs.
We were becoming concerned about our freezer defrosting so again asked about going down to the vehicle. I had seen drivers on the top deck yesterday. They said only big trucks but argued we too had a freezer that needed running. John went down at the 1000hr lift unlocking and ran the freezer and engine. He left the freezer running and returned just before the lift was again locked.

I went down when the lift was unlocked at 1600hrs. The batteries down to 11.9v so just in time. Ran the engine then turned the fridge off when leaving.
After a day of waiting we broke out a bottle and shared it with Atul.
When the other vessel left port , the pilot transferred to us and saw us safely in.

A very tight squeeze. The port is in the middle of town. Half way in we turned around then reversed further in to tie up stern to the unloading ramp. We then collected our passports and cleared customs on the ship.

The voyage from being in queue at Odessa 2300 on fri to 2300 hrs on monday - 72hrs.

Said bye and safe travels to both Atul and Andreus.

We were the second vehicle off. Not sure where to go but a guy had a quick look inside and waved us on. We found the bank for 3rd arty vehicle insurance but closed for the night. We were directed into town to another bank, which was open but not doing insurance. Come back at 1000hrs.

We headed north to a camp on the shore side of the botanical gardens. A late night.

2019-11-10 Day 387 Sun

A flat sea with some early fog, which made for a nice sunrise.

Over all nice weather. Spent the day on computer, nose in book and talking to Atul. All indications show that we should be into port by about 2300hrs tonight. A sailing of 36hrs.

MV Kanuas was built in Germany in 1989. she is 190.93m long with a breadth of 28m and gross tonnage of 25,606. She also can carry 40 railway trucks and 40 semi’s.

We felt EC safe on her lower deck.

We had no internet so could not contact Screwfred. Oh well next time.

A really nice sunset

Woken at 2300 hrs by the anchor chain rattling out her hawser. City lights in view so back to sleep.

2019-11-09 Day 386 Sat

Around 0400hrs, sailing time we receive a piece of paper and told to proceed to the gate. We did so.
When I handed the paper to the guy at the gate he complained that I needed another stamp and to go upstairs. Upstairs the guy with good English told me he could not help as it was a different agent, and to ring the other numbers. I didn’t have my phone so went back to the gate. I tried to explain that could not get the stamp. The issue was the stamp was yesterdays date 8th) the day we were supposed to sail.

He walked off and came back in 5 minutes and let us through. John drove slowly as we were not sure where we were going. A car came passed and flashed his lights and waved for us to follow.

We parked and were told vehicle paperwork thru this door and immigration around the corner.
When we entered the room the immigration agent hardly acknowledge us. I shoved our passports at him and then he slowly thumbed through them. Asked for car rego stamped the passports and we exited to customs.

We had to wait 5 mins for a brief inspection and then free to go to ship.
Parked behind a row of rail cars.

We walked almost the length of the parking bay and up the lift. Registered for room key and left our passports at registration.

A double bed, a couple of chairs, desk, fridge and shower & head. We were under the bridge and our porthole opened forward over looking the forward deck. A nice view.
John had an hours sleep while I did some computer work.
Off for a very authentic breakfast. Egg, sausage and pickle, with yogurt and semolina porridge.
We are called to breakfast over the speaker with a reminder not to be late. This is important as the hot food is already served and after 30 mins the tables are cleared and patrons removed…
Meet with our table mates. Andreas a 24 yr old Danish lad out on various adventures, and Atul a German guy heading out on adventures to India by land (hopefully).

We sat in the lounge/bar and did some computer work and read. About 11am we finally sailed, we watched from the top deck. Another heavy meal and interaction without two new found friends.
Asleep after lunch to catch up on lost hours last night.
A bit of a cool overcast day.
Another big solid meal. They are served with a bowl of salad which is a relief.
Sam is tracking really well from within the cabin perched by the porthole. We came just inside the international water line of Crimea….
