Stove having
problems starting with glow plug error but by resetting stove it will
sometimes work.
John is nearly back into his routine. Getting up early again. I was up before light (sun gets up late). Planned to get underway early and do another big day but needed to wait for the sun for a camp photo.
A lovely spot. Drove
out a different way and there are quite a few camp sites tucked away. Although we were
underway at 9am, by midday we’d only done 150km.
The first section
this morning was fantastic. A sealed road very little traffic -
sinuous with crests and sunlight.
In one town we stopped for the bank and ended up chatting to some school kids through the fence, they were locked in the school grounds
The horsemen have big leather "chaps" on their saddles to protect their legs from the spiky bushes
We crossed our east
west track made on the 4th January earlier this year. We
were going to have a late lunch at the intersection but way to much
rubbish so drove a little further and had a quick bite.
Although we are on a red road there is not too much traffic an occasional car and the rarer truck..
I had found a tourist lookout on the map with lava formations but with only a track heading in. We arrived at the gateway about 5:30. No private property signs just a sign to say do not collect fire wood. In we went. A very narrow sandy track wended its way across 6km of flood plans to a river bed heading into the rocky hills. Another 13km to the lava so we called it a day and camped at the valley mouth.
Walked up one of the hills to take photos. A great view and lots of different plants...
