Drove the required
200 km to get to Belen when it was only 57 km from our camp.
Disappointing, but the other end of the road did have a waning sign at
the beginning so maybe it did not go through.
Waved to a couple in
a land drover parked off side of road having lunch. We were stopped
for lunch when they beeped at us. At Santa Maria we
went up the wrong side of the river and through the town. Some how
however we got in front of the Land Rover. I pulled over to chat but
they went past. They soon stopped on a side road and we pulled up
behind.
A couple of South
African’s who’d shipped their 20yr old land rover over to Buenos
Aires. We gave them our Bolivian currency and SIM with scratchies for
internet. We seemed to get on well. They were just heading down road
to a river to camp so we invited ourselves. However the river camp was not very nice.
We noticed the road goes up the hill ahead and suggested we go up
there. So off we went. Got quite tight in places. One place in
particular had a stone put in a crevasse at side of road we managed
to miss it on way up. Stopped at 2175m alt where there was parking for 2
for the night.
A great couple. I
had to do the washing so john talked to them then we had nibbles and
some wine then onto our separate meals. I left pots of water on the
stove while eating and the stove went out on overheat, first time I
had seen this. It did restart again though. Got to bed around midnight.
