We spent a wonderful day with Selmon
and his wife (Phyllus) and 3yr old daughter (Phazar). Phyllus
cooked us a late Turkish breakfast, which was wonderful, stuffed
pancakes, olives, a few types of cheese and some other cooked things,
All in all very interesting.
We
then piled into the car and joined the congested freeway into
Eminonu then caught a very crowded ferry across the Bospherus to
Uskudar on the Anatolia side.
We then walked south down the
esplanade with the other million of locals. We turned just past the Maidens tower
which is a very small island with a building covering it all which
used to be a light house.
Most of the people out and about appeared
to be locals as it was a beautiful day and as most seem to only get
1 or 1½ days off in the work week - they were all out enjoying the
day. We then walked north almost to the bridge where there was a
small forest and hunting lodge from days gone by; now a restaurant.
My feet were starting to bother me
so we turned around and headed back towards the ferries. We mentioned
that we'd like to take them out for dinner.
Looking back towards Uskudar
They chose a restaurant in Karakoy so we caught a ferry there.
The 15th of July Martyrs Bridge
The Dolmabahce Palace we visited
After dinner we walked back across the Golden Horn on the Galatea Bridge and ended up drinking tea and eating chocolate souffle up on top of a building with a wonderful view down over where we had spent the afternoon.
