I
started walking about 09:30. John seemed to take a while to catch me
up. I nearly made it out to the seal. Two cars stopped to ask if it was
OK and did I need a lift.
An
interesting road, following a very clean river, lined in places with
trees. The road was good and we traveled at 85 – 90 km/h . At the
pass there were many cars stopped looking at the view but also both
sides of the pass had white material tied to all the trees.
Drove
through the small town Shebalino looking for a water tap. Finally
found one and filled up using the water bottles.
The
closer we got to Novosibirsk the more unsafe the traffic became.
We
passed harvested fields which were tinged with red and we wondered if
it as quinoa. Hay had been bailed and the sunflowers were past their
prime.
What
surprised me was that some paddocks were just being harvested and
others had just sprouted, do they just stagnate until next spring or
can they grow through these tough winters.
Most
of the houses have vegie gardens some still producing and others
bare and awaiting the snow.
The
public play-grounds are colorful and many.
We
crossed our 31 July path just north of Biysk, detoured around Barnaul
and finally after a long 580km
tried to get stuck in sand by the rivers edge, near the village of
Lughovoie. We did get some strange looks driving past the evening
walkers.
After
lowering of the tires and reluctance of EC to move forward John
backed out and with lightning all around we camped beside the trees.
I booked a hotel in Novosibirsk.
It
rained a little in the night. But the storm was not very exciting
