Israfel
from the Black Sea contacted me and when I told him where we were he
said he used to live in a village near by when he was 21. He then
indicated a few places we should see so we put a few more points on
the map. We continued up the hill to the village of Altinkaya and the
ancient city of Selge.
In
wet weather gear A guy explained to us where we could go. There was
no cost. we had a wonder around the amphitheater then gave up.
Raining with a strong wind so we returned to the vehicle.
They are obviously used to rain here.....
a covered in Quad!!
A narrow bridge.
We were
told that we should go back the way we came and not drive further as
it was too narrow.
Retracing
our steps back close to the ocean where is where the main east west
road is. After a few km’s we turned inland a short distance to see
the old city of Aspendos. Certainly back on the main tourist route
with tickets now at $10 each
Aspendos has an amazingly intact amphitheater With
stage and all. It was very impressive. We have seen a lot of theaters now but most have very little of the stage and back left
just the seating….
They still hold shows here nearly 2000 years later
Then we walked up the hill and walked around in
the long grass at the rest of the remains.
A
quick drive down and around the back of the hill to the remains of the aqueduct.
Amazing structure. It had to be this high to get the water to the top
of the hill where the city was. One thing the Romans were great at.
Along
the coast for a bit then inland again by passing Antalya another big
city.
Via
some new hi-ways then some back roads we made it to the Termessos
Gulu Mountain national park. We could not get on the small white road
we wanted as it was on the other side of a divided road so drove
another few km’s to the other end of it. Signs in the middle of the
road which we didn’t get to see their face as we turned onto a dirt
road This slow road had no end and was not on the map. We tired of it
as it was in a valley so headed back up it a ways for a late camp in
trees.
