Spent the
morning in the apartment before packing and exiting about 11:00. We had
had a great time here. It is not overcrowded, we had some good food
and saw some amazing buildings.
The
city seemed to extend north a long way but it was not busy, maybe
being Sunday morning.
We
arrived at the Sinaia Monastery in the rain so donned our wet weather
gear and walked in.
The
church had great carving on its pillars in the portico. The door was
amazing and the painted walls and ceiling colourful.
Through
a doorway into the monastery's courtyard was a small cute chapel .
Next
we drove up the hill to Peles Castle which is once again under the
control of the Royal family and although they do not live here they
occasionally Grace the dinning table along with guests.
Built
early 1900’s it is quite mind boggling, overwhelming, fascinating,
obscene, ostentatious, German, grotesque.
The
glass ceiling even opens electrically.
So much detail has gone into
the walls with the wood work etc.
Some
rooms were built and decorated in a architectural style from a
different country
The
library had some of it’s original books still there.
We
only bought tickets for the ground floor, which was quite enough
thank you.
Outside was just as amazing….
Spring
flowers are about in abundance, nice to see some color, but couldn't
find a small pot to replace our long dead plant.
We
drove up a dead end road to find a camp but there was nothing. The
forest had been logged and all tracks deep in mud.
Next
we went through a small village of Azuga and camped above it looking
out onto the ski lifts. A quiet camp.
