Drizzled a little in the night. We left early about 6:30am. the
road out was good. But got stopped at a barrier. 4 trucks on the
other side. The guy in charge just said that we could not pass because
of rain. Maybe midday. We fly at 13:00. So next door there was
policemen I went into them and said that we needed to pass to catch
a plane. They explained to me the directions to get to Pulcallpa. I signalled them outside and when they saw the barrier they told the guy
to lift it for the Americans. I indicated we are Australians. We got
through. I think what was happening is that the road outwards to the
villages was closed to heavy vehicles. But he hadn’t quite worked
out that we where heading back into town.
In town
we picked up our tickets then had a walk in the markets to buy some
light weight clothes for mozzies.
Then back to park the vehicle and grab our bags.Off to airport in motor taxi. Arrived the prescribed 2 hours before 12:00hrs and then waited till 16:30hrs before boarding. They squeezed a Lima flight and Iquitos flight on the one plane so the Lima crew got an extra flight…

We were picked up at
the airport driven into town for Charlie our guide to pick up some
paper work then the hour and a half drive (in the dark) to Nauta
where the boat is. We stopped in a scungy place by the river then
walked gingerly down the messy river bank to a skiff which took us
along the bank to Spondias.
