A french van was parked on the outer circumference of one of the main wheelie circuits, wonder when they arrived, but did not respond to my knock. The first travelers we had seen for a long while.
Our
water is still frozen.
We
wanted to cross the mountain range, to drive over the high
pass(1200m) orange road, but the road was closed, so drove west to the
other lower crossing (yellow road) and drove that one. In places there
is still snow on the road but is not slippery.
Once
we crested the pass (640m) and came down we were in sunshine and snow
free. An amazing change. Still in the negative temps though. Hopeful
that our water pipes will soften.
There
are many water filling sites along the roads; just a trough with a pipe
with water coming out at different speeds. We filled our bottles and
tried to put water into the tanks but the fillers were blocked with
ice. At lunch we put some heated water in hoping it would melt its
way down.
John picked out a possible campsite on the map; a dam called Tundzha. We arrived about 16:15 just before the sun set.
As
we pulled up the local farmer appeared in his car. He was all
ok with us camping here for the night. We were well above water level, but also well below the high tide mark, and beside a church ruin, As it was not yet dark I got
some skipping in, however my hands got very cold just after the sun
went behind the yonder hill. Still just below freezing. -3℃
but forecast is for -14℃ overnight.
Put some hot water bottles onto the water plumbing in locker.
