2019-05-09 Day 224 Thu

The three of us walked up a seldom used bush track to be met with wonderful views. The third chapel was perched on a cliff near the hilltop. The outside corner was overhanging the cliff and the drop was about 5m.
The priest lit candles inside and asked us about our religion. He could not comprehend the enormity of the fact we said we had no religion.
Finally leaving him to his tranquillity we turned downhill and onto the other road out. The mud puddles got bigger and longer the more we crossed so decided to turn back and traverse the road we already knew.
Arriving back in the village the street was blocked by a front end loader with no driver visible. I went walking down the street looking for someone to shift it. Our map did not show another route to bypass the tractor.
A guy walked up behind and said he’d show us a way. So with me sitting on the center console and a large man in the passenger seat we turned and headed for a by pass. The friendly helpful fella didn’t smell too good!!!
Out of the village and towards Azerbaijan.

Detoured up a windy road to visit a fort city at Sighnaghi, Had a lunch which took ages but was quite nice. Very touristy so had a quick walk down the wall and back to the vehicle. A few people were dreaming about EC and traveling so spoke to them for a while.
Put the last of our local currency into the tank and prepared for the border crossing.

This good luck sign was a ambiguous - were they wishing us good luck for our further travels or do we need good luck to enter Azerbaijan?

Well luck was with us and we crossed out of Georgia without problems although I did have to leave the vehicle but at least no long corridors to walk down.
Azerbaijan border staff were friendly. It took a while to get the car sorted as our registration paper is not what they are used to. They ask for the cars book?
A friendly local helped us with the language as he was renewing his insurance too. He had his wife and 3yr old son with him. We gave the boy a kangaroo which he would not let go of. We also had to pay a road tax.

Finally In. Another country and they are getting more interesting and friendly as we go East.

The mosque minarets are a bit different here!

Drove about 13km to get away from border and drove out through a village to a river. Here we parked on the higher river bank as the forecast was for a wet night.
Drovers came past with their stock and were very friendly. One informed us to be careful as the river may flood with all the rain. But we would be OK with where we were parked.
A quiet night with just the river burbling past.
