Mongolia today.
We drove
back to the Ferry landing. There were a few cars here. The ferry is 3
barges tied together with a “deck” placed on them to hold the
cars.
Not sure if the loading ramp is EC rated? But we had no plans to cross anyway.
Our
last visions of Russia for a month.
At
Kyakhta which we entered from the wrong end…. We parked
for a few hours to get a bit of internet and update all our devices.
We
happened to park near a public water “tap”. Many people came
to fill their “cans” and carry them off on their trolley.
Some
people dropped by to chat with us. This Ambulance guy was very chatty
and even gave me a handful of lollies when he left.
Another
big cathedral in a little town.
A
little readjustment to the suspension.
Filled
with fuel then arrived at the border later than we wanted at
about 1600hrs.
A very
slow process to both exit Russia and to enter Mongolia.
No
signs or directions. Just have to hope some one will tell you where
to go. Customs where a bit confused that we had a Kazakhstan paper
for the car which slowed the process down.
Two
German bikies came in who recognized the truck and knew us from John
riding Felix’s bike, in Kyrgyzstan.
Finally
out of Russia, Mongolia gave us a slip of paper and a red piece of laminated paper with a 2 on it for 2 persons. We needed 3 stamps to
be able to exit. Somehow we only had two so I went back for the third
while John extracted EC from the exit lane.
Another quick check inside the car and we were free to leave. Back into the line. Finally out then to the next gate where I went to buy insurance, which involved a walk to the ATM to withdraw 800,000mnt mongol Tughrik. Bought the months insurance then we got let past the gate.

Next
a sim but Mobicom was closed and a guy tried to sell me a Skylite for
100000. I declined as I had been caught before...
Around
the corner I bought a Skylite for 500 for sim and 1000 for 10gb. Took
the shop keeper lady and myself a while to get data to flow.
Finally
we had a stamp in the passport, local currency and a sim. We were off to
find a camp.
Out
of town and across the paddocks towards the river and train line on
tracks. Found a camp albeit a bit close to an often used railway
track.
