The
road to the hill top tomb was still closed so we stopped at the
monastery. It was either new or recently built. But was quite
spectacular, with all it’s paintings along the corridors and some
were done in mosaic.
The
museum had some interesting and old stuff. Here we learnt that the
church and original monastery was built in the 11th
century.
Next
we visited the church wow puts all the others in another bracket.
This one full of cold hanging candle holders and a huge gold leaf
thingy.
In
the side chamber must have been at least 100 pieces of saint in their
relic boxes. One or two pieces inset in silver boxes. Some would have
a raised outline of a hand with some bones visible through glass just above the wrist. There
were others that made us think they were part of the skull in a
rounded box. Most
other churches may have a picture frame with 10 or 15 pieces but we
have not seen a collection of this size.
The bell tower. Set in the hills above the church
John
drove us down a very wriggly road to the West coast near Pomos. We
stopped on the way down hill for a quick bite to eat.
I
then drove along the coast while squalls dumped there rain on us, to
Polis where we happened on a fishing tackle shop. Quickly we bought a
reel of 50kg braking strain nylon some squid a length of trace and a
few hooks. A good start.
We headed out again
needing to put her in 4 wheel drive to get up the grass.
The
track around the ocean cliff was narrow rough and very wet but at
least being rough their was rock….. Camped in a down pour right
near the sea
