We were
both feeling tired. I stayed in bed and read. Having my 3 cups of
tea in bed along with my porridge and yogurt. The Cypriot yogurt is
0% fat, strained and thickened. It certainly does not taste like 0% fat yoghurt. It has a very creamy texture.
John
spent his morning catching up on photos.
We
drove back down to the Anemurium, thinking that it may not be worth
visiting, but it was.
Some
of the buildings had a roof and a lot of the crypts still had their
rounded roofs. The remains of a castle perched high on the headland
overlooking the town ship. An outer and inner wall mostly destroyed
protected the castle from the land. No walls were needed on the other
sides of the steep sides up from the sea.
After
lunch and a wonder around in amongst the ruins with their baths and
two aqueducts delivering the water to the baths,
We
headed on West.
Shortly
after passing our track from last night and seeing what we couldn’t
at night the road dropped back to being single lanes. I was caught
behind a few trucks. An interesting windy road on very steep hills
leading to the sea. Banana’s everywhere….
Here
most of them are on steep hills and all their fronds look burnt maybe
from the wind and salt air.
We
followed a track down towards a beach, through banana plantations,
but the track became a little narrow.
Next
we turned off to look at some ruins. John was reluctant as the map
showed a cable car symbol., on down through the bananas to the castle
on the headland. Yes we found the cable car, in fact 4 of them. They
use them to hall the bunches of banana’s up the hill to the road.
Sadly
there is a sign asking one not to walk up to the castle as it is an
excavation site and unsafe.
We
walked down the steep track to the sea and two “bays” one formed
by the sea coming in through an archway. .On top of this hill is some
cyrpts. The other open to the sea , between the crypts and the
castle. Several small groups were having a picnic. One group of 3
ladies were perched on a large flat rock with table and chairs.
We
moved EC to a dead end road just above the open bay. Sitting outside
with nibbles and wine we enjoyed the last hour of warmth. Although
overcast the sunset was very orange.
