Leroy asked for a lift for the first 40km’s in Ecuador because the road was reputadly terrible.
Then he went ahead for the 40km trip to the Ecuador border. We left about
1hr after him.
As we came around
the first corner there was a donkey rolling in the middle of our side
of the road. Just never know what you’ll see around the next corner.
No problems clearing
out from Peru. Clearing into Ecuador was also easy but getting the
vehicle in was time consuming. I don't think very many foreign
vehicles come this way. The official sent all the info off
to headquarters and then we waited for the paperwork. He gave us
permission to load Leroy’s bike so did all that then had a slab of
chocolate cake and waited. Had a roll for lunch then finally got the
go ahead and the piece of paper.
Transport for the locals from the border.
Very rough steep road to begin with then just rough and winding. A cyclist flew past but did not stop then we saw other cyclists and stopped to chat. A group of seven some had cycled from Alaska….. One was an Argentinian who was a backpacker who got his gear stollen and then bought a bike and joined the group.
