Stopped by a farm gate to cook john some oat cakes for morning tea. We were just getting ready to leave when the farmer and two workers turned up. He had a little English and could understand our Spanish. He owns 1600 hectares and has 1500 head of cattle. We had thought they were Brahman but are actually the Indian Breed Nelore. He also has Angus. He then took us to his house and showed us the dam complete with Caiman and Capybaras. We had a look at the vege garden and he gave john some chillies.
We noticed the lemon
grass and then the wife of the worker went and made us a drink with
it. Fantastic. Take 6 or 8 leaves fold in 3-4 then twist in two or
3 places to break the strands put in a pot of water bring to boil
with some sugar then pour over ice. Add some lime in the glass and
you have a magnificent drink.
She then bought out some roast beef cut up and a flour based spiced dukkah. Wow. And non of it upset my stomach.
This guy has owned the property for 20 years but lives in Campo Grande and is a physician. He obviously uses this as a weekend getaway and loves being here very much. He had pride in his farm.
We continued our drive needing to stop by 3 so we could dry our washing.
Went into a National
Reserve but the only roads off the main one was through a village; a shame as the escarpments were wonderful to look at. Some feature out
here in the flat lands.
Looks like rain….
Turned back onto our original track and headed towards Miranda where we would turn onto the white road. Finally a camp 20km’s short of Miranda in a clump of trees. VERY hot and humid, Finished the washing and hung it out while dripping ourselves with sweat. Had a shower and settled in front of the fan. Of course it now rains. Our clothes and sheets have another rinse.
