2017-11-27 Day 207 Mon

In the morning we had a visit from the farmer on his horse. Took some photos as the saddle setup is quite different. Before John took the photo the farmer put his pistol out of site under a blanket. When john queried the need for a pistol the answer was BEAR. As high as the horses shoulder…… First we have heard of bears being here.

Another guy came along carrying a long implement to cut grass/weeds bushes. His hat had seen better days as had his shirt, but he was clean and bright eyed. He had a long chat to us explaining something but we got nothing of it. His voice and the language was very musical but did not sound Portuguese, and reminded me a little of French.

We drove on some 90 minutes then as we breasted a cleared hill we had sunshine and wind so stopped and hung the washing up. I made a carrot cake and by the time it was cooked the washing was dry.
Driving further on this track we decided to drop the tyre pressure. John got out and noticed some prints in the mud, they were big, a Bear perhaps? As we drove on we saw quite a few other similar prints but smaller.

This road has a few cattle grids. Interesting to see that they are made of wood.

Camped by lovely clear stream and had a swim to cool off. The temperature reaches the high 30°s and is very humid. This is the type of weather we expected in Ecuador.
