2018-01-19 Day 260 Fri

I slept in a bit and john was getting pretty hungry so went down for a long breakfast and more discussions on what next. Checked out and sat in the restaurant doing some more internet stuff. Had a late lunch. I had a magnificent fillet steak cooked to perfection and stir fried veges. The best steak I have had while in South America. John had a T bone a little under cooked for him but as requested.

Finally went back to Kaufmann about 3:30pm for an hour wait. They do know we need her back today as we need to leave the country tomorrow.
Finally in the drivers seat and a change of plan. We would head for a small border crossing called Paso Carirrine. I had googled it to discover that it opens for summer and had opened December 1st.

We headed SE to Lago Calafquen. We had camped on the west side last May on a drizzly winter day with hardly a sole in site. What a shock was in store for us. People everywhere. Before we even got to the town the road by the lakeside was packed with cars and the beach crowded.

The town was transformed all shops open with wares on display and wall to wall people! Finally we understand how these campgrounds and cabanas can make their yearly income in two months.

No camp here for us this time. Traffic slowly dwindled as we continued towards the border. The reserva Biologica Huilo Huilo was certainly a lot quieter.

Darkness was falling (10pm) as we finally turned onto a side road. There was a potential camp just across the bridge but we drove up the hill then returned to the bridge. Although not much of the river could be seen we could certainly hear it.
