Drove for three km along the eastern dam wall. Looks like the
whole of the dam is concrete and it goes for kilometers, kind of
just, funnels the water. Maybe keeps the lands from flooding….
Saw a few sheep flocks being herded to pasture. The most we have seen so far.
One town had houses
that were really well decorated with fancy plastering and painting.
We stumbled on a
fortified Evangelical church (UNESCO listed) largest and most
renowned in Translvania, built between 1493 & 1522 on the sight of
another church. So went for a look. Quite amazing but not sure where
they would have fitted the townsfolk when the marauders came.
An interesting lock on the “treasury door” near the altar, which is quite famous for it’s intricacies. Also known for the choir seats.
Did a supermarket
shop just before Targu Mures the best supermarket I had been in for a
while. Lots of bulk nuts and dried fruit as well as teas, coffee,
cocoa, seeds and Muesli for $2.50kg. The best muesli we have had. So
bought about 6kg. Also in the Freezer were bulk loose veges. A first
for me.
Targu Mures is quiet
a big town and had some impressive buildings and statues and of
course churches.
We headed East on a
yellow road which was a great road and pulled off down a little track
and across a very slippery bottomed rocky river. Direction was
dictated by the rocks! Out on the other side to perch above the creek
for a quiet night.
