Awoken at 02:30 by voices, talking and laughing, a shake
of the car and torch light being shone through the front window. Yes
4 young coppers.
John got up and said hi to them from the drivers
seat. Four cops, two with automatic weapons. One guy had a little English
and when he asked John, “Where are you from?” His mates burst
out laughing and one excused himself to the rear of the car. John
was also asked, "What are you doing here?" and "Where are you going? ". They said goodnight and left.
Some of the road markings leave us puzzled. 3 lines and two lots of double white lines!
The highway is under construction so is intermittent.

Continued
out drive east along the Black Sea coast. We saw some great shore
line but sadly no sun to bring out any color in the water. Grey sky
and grey sea. It was often hard to tell where they met.
Hazel
nut crop is big here and the trees are everywhere. All just coming out
in their fresh leaves. The country houses all have vegie gardens
and people are out plowing, rotary hoeing or simply digging their
patch. Some are already planting out seedlings.
We
drove through a number of close tunnels as we went through the ridges
running down to the sea. We periodically would drive on 2 or 3 lane
free-ways, then back onto 1 lanes skinny winding roads. It drizzled
on and off for most of the day.
Other sections of the road were more to our liking.
Found a nice little camp perched above the town of Doganyurt. Just on dark a police officer came by. Didn’t speak English but seemed happy we were there. And we were happy that it was at 8pm not 2am.
