2019-06-28 Day 274 Fri

Washing was dry, in and folded by the time I woke. Around 6:30. Stove worked again…..

Up and on. A great little road. It had been freshly dressed but still slow. A bit like Bolivia, quite narrow and steep sided.

You can just see the last switchback up to the pass

Notice the switchbacks on the grassy hill to the right and the ones in the snow.

Looking back down the road we had just traversed.

A slab of snow had slid onto the road so john sliced its edge off with the shovel to give a bit more room, didn't feel safe going to close to the edge.

At the pass (3200m) we stopped and had lunch and did a bit of internet work. We spent about 2 hours here and had 3 cars/taxi’s go past us back down the way we’d come. A front end loader came up from in-front, turned around and headed back down.

And down again

Although we could see the Front end loader it took us a while to catch him up.
I drove down. A long slow road. 25km in 2 hours took john 1.5 hrs to get up the 15km.

So 40km’s done  and now the 60km of yellow to the main road.

This yellow road seemed even slower…. Lots of small villages and bumpy roads, another 3 hours. But the drive has been really worth it. Great views. Onto the main road and a bit more speed.
35km’s in just under 45 mins.
Amazing how nothing grows along the river - just where the irrigation happens.

 Not quite EC standard!

A lot of these hills are grazed by goats sheep and cattle, notice there path across the river.
Ladies and men are seldom seen together.

Separate groups sitting in a village. The men have the shaded steps to sit on the women squat in the street.

The women have been out in the fields collecting grass for the animals.

We met some German guys in an old land cruiser. Maybe we'll catch them again.

Turning off onto another old loop road to find a camp and then read on the map that it is closed.
Camped half on a viewing platform for where the river goes done the plug hole. A few trucks carrying river rocks, but couldn’t hear them over the river. The whole vehicle was trembling from the blast of air from the river.

We had realized that tomorrow is Saturday so no hurry for the post office.
