Drizzling and foggy so decided no point in seeing how
far we would get up the road. My tummy was a bit upset and I spent
the morning feeling unwell. Headed back to main road and joined
the crazy traffic on it's way to Dushambe.
A road worker signaled to us that the road was closed but we kept driving. at the first tunnel we needed to drive around it with the other vehicles but apart from that all looked OK. In one spot they were laying new tar but traffic kept moving.
At the second tunnel(s) either the right hand one had never been opened or it had suffered some mishap but had not been used for a very long while.
Turned off 5km’s before
the city and followed a yellow road through villages. I was not
well so we stopped by a river and I had a sleep. We then continued for
a nicer camp and finally found a camp on a grassy knoll overlooking
a village. John checked with the cow herder and he thought it was OK.
A
group of young guys came up to drink (so their mothers will not find out) and John went and chatted. I was
still feeling green so just sorted photos.
He learnt a
fair bit more on the women's role - which is simply do what her husband
tells her. One of the guys was married but his wife was at his families
place helping… Not much better than a slave. They can be killed apparently for
sleeping with another guy or simply disobeying their husband.
