We had good intentions of leaving camp early but instead
rang John Yeo for a chat then just as that was finishing Muff rang
another good chat then we rang Chris so now it was 1100hrs.
These "deer stones" graves were really quiet interesting and we saw a number of them unmarked and unprotected as our time in Mongolia lengthened
Finally saw horses being milked
The
track remained quite slow with a few faster stretches. At one stage
we had the choice of going east on to a yellow road then red to the
town of Karrakoum but it was 50% more in length.
We
took the shorted less used road and it paid off. Still a track but
faster and very different terrain.
Came
in the back way again and had a look at the monument to greater
Mongolia which featured the size of Mongolia and it’s conquered
regions throughout the years. Amazing that a very small nation with
so few people conquered Russia China and just about all of Europe.
Shows that the towns have very little road structure just dirt tracks between the rows of houses
Into
the town we found a water station and filled via our 5 litre bottles.
Cost 100mnt per 6 bottles a total of 300mnt which amounts to AU20c.
A
lad came buy with two horses and gave the water from a basin. He paid
for that as well.
Small rural towns but the schools all have a uniform
Next onto the old city the first capitol of Mongolia. Now there are only some Buddhist temples and the wall of the city. When in the 13th century it was the biggest town known.
Some
fuel and out of town on a sealed road. After 5 km we decided to put a
bit more air in the tires to give us 80km/h.
The
road was sealed but had the lumps which kept our speed down and drivers vigilant. Not just the driver but also the passenger.
We
again went off piste and drove up a hill to perch beside a pile of
large stones.
A
guy on a motorbike got a surprise when he saw John and then EC.
