At
about 03:30hrs some local hoons arrived and went tearing past us and
making a racket. We ignored them and went back to sleep.
A
gorgeous morning. The car was still parked on the other side of
the hut but no-one in site. Maybe they had gone shooting.
We
had just settled in for the morning of computer stuff when a truck
pulled up asking if he could get through which we didn’t know. He
put two chains around one tyre and one on the other rear wheel.
20mins
later he came back to the vehicle looking for a tow. We told him 20
mins. The
end to out peaceful morning.
First
we had to tow him backwards to get in front of him.
We then tried
to tow but ended up having to put chains on our self. Still two hard so
had to back down and take a faster run at the snowy slope.
At
the pass we got stuck and released him.
We drive on to see if the road
was passable. At one spot EC’s bum wanted a closer look at the
drop off. Not all all to my liking, But with Johns skill we kept on
sideways till her bum decided to come into line. The road after that,
although snow covered in places was easily passable.
Back
we went to the truck, also struggling in the soft snow as before but
this time also reluctant to continue forward. We explained to the guy
that we would get him out of this hole and leave him here or take him
back but we would not take him forward.
The
car from last night arrived and 3 guys went off with semi automatic
weapons hunting. The fourth stayed and helped.
After
trying to winch him out they discovered a large rock stopping his
axle from forward motion. Once this was removed we extracted him
easily enough.
We turned
around and he wanted a tow we said no. He pleaded pulled at his Adams
apple and prostrated himself. We said no. we’d take him back but not
forward. He was quiet insistent but so were we. We left him there.
Wonderful
views ahead and the snowiest parts of the road behind.
We
got to the summer village of Gormismta where there we interesting
houses and lots of new construction. No one was apparently in
residence at the moment but the builders were hard at it.
A
beach camp just south of Poti. The most rubbish covered beach we had
seen in a while. Quite disgusting but it was already late in the
evening.
We
did have enough time to sit out in the waning sun.
A
car stopped. An un-uniformed police officer but he would not let us
hold or photograph his ID. So we did not let him hold our passports (he did not want a photograph).
Half
hour later a uniformed cop showed up. We felt more comfortable with
this guy. His off sider had some English and kept telling us to make
sure we locked up everything at night.
