2019-12-02 Day 409 Mon

A little rain during the night but just drizzle.

I walked out ahead again this morning. Yes going back the way we came in... the only way forward.

A nice view down over the lake

Finally a photo that really shows the terracing and how exact they are.

Yes same day just 9 mins apart…
Up and into the snow. The rain last night has left a coating of snow at higher (not much higher) altitude.

This area is very well farmed with orchard trees.

A leaf I picked up had this round “thing” attached.

We were heading to Mt Nemrut for tonight's camp coming in from the north on a white rather than from the south on the main tourist route.

We stopped at a small town to buy some fruit and veg. Guys were offering us tea or coffee but we refused. John got talking to a guy with an electrical store who had some English.

Fruit and veg in good condition here. Mandarins are the fruit of the moment being everywhere and freshly picked.

Some bare root fruit trees for sale.

Turkey is building a lot of new high ways everywhere we have been traveling of late. This is a new bridge over the Euphrates river. A bridge to nowhere…

There are huge reserves of water in this region.

Dried Apricots, (about 6 different types, organic or not) raisins and dried sour plums.

Found a spot over looking the reservoir for a quick lunch of soup while john was on a call to Cynthia.

More fish farms.

Back in Autumn still leaves on the trees.

And 40mins later back into the snow at 1800m. The yellow roads tend to join the villages so one minute we are down in the valley the next up at altitude.

Paintings on buildings depicting the statues on Mt Nemrut.
Bundle of twigs and small branches neatly piled. for..?

Mt Nemrut is at 2150m so we were not sure how far we’d get. There is no rain or snow forecast for a day so we should be OK.

Up we went in the snow. Following one other tire print.

After the restaurant, which was closed, the road became dirt. But a proper road. We continued up while dusk was settling around us.
The car we had been following turned back at the first switchback. We continued up the next 6 and perched on the edge with a view down to the valley floor to the north and south. Nothing but rugged landscape in site.

The wind was blowing a bit and it was cold. Some guys were moving around some huts between us and the burial mound.

We exited our cosy house, after nightfall to have a look at the view. Lights everywhere all around and yet during the daylight we did not see a building. An amazing site. So crystal clear after the rain.
