Once
the sun was up and had warmed the air a little, we dressed in
waterproof pants, and a few extra upper layers and ventured out
into the beautiful sunny but windy cold day.
The
rocks on the path were covered in ice and it was a bit treacherous.
Really quite amazing, seeing as I thought we were coming to a lake…..
These
statues were very large with the heads taller than me. The burial
hill extended another 50 metres above us. An impressive site.
The
Western terrace was more intact or had been put back together.
Very
similar statues at both east and west terrace.
After walking around
we headed back down to EC and warmth.
Down
the hill a bit and a small white road around the base on the North
West side.
The
hills are really rocky around here, some with castles perched ontop.
Oops this rock is a bit to big to move out of the garden.
The castle
has had quite extensive renovations done to it. Yeni Kale
A
lovely old bridge across Cendere Cayi.
Looking
back at Mount Nemrut.
Another
monument burial site. Karakus tumulusu.

Growing
dark and wonderful camp site perched amongst a farmer’s paddocks
on a northern arm of the Ataturk Dam of the Euphrates river. The same
water that comes through the Karanliki Gorge.
