2019-12-23 Day 430 Mon

Drove out mid morning and visited the small village of Kaleburnu which has a cave tomb (Kastros necropolis). Very tight corners through the village and out to the end of the road.

Crops are grown on most flat area's

A short walk and down some much overgrown steps to the cave. The cliff above has collapsed covering most of the entrance.

We were very surprised at how big the tomb was. About 21m long and 2.5m high with 3 niches on either side of 7-8 meters where the dead were laid to rest.
As well as 3 wells.

Next as John only slowed at a stop sign ( the stop signs are a good 10m from the actual corner and one cannot see the cross roads) a police car lit up it’s lights.
John pulled over and the first question was "Where is your camera?". Very surprising?
John took ours out and was told that we had been taking photos of a navel ship. John showed the camp photos and navel ship in background. Next he asked for passports and made us follow him to police station.
Here we had to wait for the spooks to come. Finally we found out that someone had phoned the police and told them we were taking photos of the navel ship. The photos were taken last night so about 20 hours previous. Any way the spooks turned up and had a look and said we could go.
Got to the border by Famagusta to be told that we needed to cross at the Nicosia border. A quick drive there on red. 70km. A bit slow going through Nicosia but had too.
When we went to relinquish our visa form for the car we were told that we could only get a one day visa as we already had a transit visa. I explained that we had a 10day visa not transit. So we were told to keep the form and when we cross back in then we will need to go to port and extend the expired visa. Does not make sense so will see when we go back across the border.
Next customs at the border for Republic of Cyprus border. They asked how long we were staying and I said 6 weeks, they laughed and said not possible so I got out with my letter from customs and said yes I can.

After a bit of reading one guy took over and filled out the P5 form we needed. All good. Took a little while but got there. Also our green card insurance works here too.
The official gave us permission to have the car in until Feb 10th.
Started pouring with rain.

Drove down to the southern coast and then along towards Larnaca to find a camp. Bought a punnet of strawberries on side of road. Quite expensive at €5
John found us a lovely spot right on the ocean and on solid concrete…….

A very blustery stormy night.
