2020-02-11 Day 457 Tue

Foggy drizzly morning. We left earliish as now we had to drive the long way round. We were heading out past Datca to camp at the end of the peninsula.

We drove through Marmaris on the fore shore hoping for a little restaurant on the beach, this was not found so we continued.

I googled to see if the ferry from Datca to Bodrum was running. Yes at 10am daily. It didn't seem possible for foreigners to buy tickets on-line so we stopped a Datca and bought tickets for tomorrow morning. We found a little fish restaurant and had some lunch and a glass of wine.

Not such an interesting drive out along the ridge but the ancient town of Knidos at the end was interesting. Another ancient city. We had a quick wonder .

We saw our first ancient sun dial…. Sadly they had not set it up so people could tell the time.

The blocks laid out mad it fell a bit like a jig saw puzzle.

No where to camp here so we headed back out looking for a road down to the water. One track quickly became too narrow and we backed out of it.

The other was on our map. Up and around a hill between two fences and then spied two men digging in the road. We stopped and chatted - yes we could stay on the point for the night.

We set up camp and john went to help break stone….

They have 6 room hotel built on top of their 200 year old house….

They call their friend up from the house who had good english. We were invited for chai then wine and an lightly local chicken.

The owner and his worker had a curiously subservient relationship. We had an interesting night chatting and learning more about Turkey. The owner has lots of property in Bodrum but lives here as it is quiet. Oh and they have 7000 olive trees. Takes 25 workers 6 weeks to pick them all. They have two private beaches. Most welcoming people.
